ENGEOCOM Tunnelling Machinery

The tunnelling mechanized complex (TMC) called “Sofia” has completed the left tunneling distillation tunnel from “Shelepiha” metro station to the connecting branch of the Third interchange circuit and Kalinin-Solntsevo line. This project is initiated by the Department of Construction of Moscow as the state customer on-site. The contractor/company hired to do this work is JSC Combine ENGEOCOM.

Shield “Sofia” has covered an entire distance of 768 meters. The lines are running under Shmitovsky, an industrial area near the 1st Silica travel, and a dense residential development. Drifters have been working in the complex hydrogeological conditions, up to a maximum depth of 40 meters.

After completing the tunneling, the complex has gone into the excavation chamber congresses of the Third interchange circuit and Kalinin-Solntsevo line as next in the line for progress. While the second ring of the Moscow Metro will be built, the “Business Center” – “Peter Park” site will temporarily join with the Kalinin-Solntsevo line. Thus, temporarily, the train will go from “Rasskazovka” station to the “Petrovsky Park.”

Next TMC will be moved to the opposite end of the pit, where the construction will begin toward Kalinin-Solntsevo line. Usually after the completion of the shield, it is disassembled into parts, maintenance is carried out on the peices, and they are transported to the new launch site and collected again. On average, it takes 1.5 months to complete these steps. Metrostroiteley of Association ENGEOCOM says that they “plan to prepare Sophia for sinking down” in a new record time – just 15 days. For this purpose, a unique method of moving the shield whole will be used. Complex manoeuvres with a hand pallet truck are required to move the unit from one end of the excavation chamber to the other entirely without dismantling.

They are going to put a monolithic slab in the bottom of the shaft pit and install steel plates, with rails on which the “Sofia” will move, using a jacking system to install it onto the welded rails, starting from specially made stops and pulling it on the hand cart. So says Konstantin Tsallagov, head of the mechanization construction of Association ENGEOCOM. According to him, during the pulling, there will be mechanics on board with the “Sofia” to replace the cutting tools and to conduct the thorough inspection of all the components and assemblies that are usually inspected while the unit is disassembled for travel. When it is moving to the other end of the Metro interchange to begin it’s new work, the “skiing” movement of the Sofia will be cut off, and it will not operate until it has been inspected while in transit to the new construction site.

Application of this new experimental method allows Metrostroiteley reduce construction time and save money on the installation and dismantling of the complex, while still remaining safe for the workers to use in the tunneling process. Specialists construction workers with Association ENGEOCOM are “already used dragging to move the complex mechanics of “Sofia” and “Victoria” through station “Shelepiha.”

JSC Business Combinations ENGEOCOM acts as official contractor of the construction site of the Third interchange circuit of the Moscow Metro station from Business Center to Lower Maslovka.The line includes six stations: 5 – newly built (Lower Maslovka, Peter Park, Khodynka, Khoroshevskaya, and Shelepiha) and 1 being finished (Downtown). Construction site length is 12.76 km. The construction of these stations will be the beginning of formation of a new subway interchange circuit, which will provide a transplant from one branch to another without using the central congested hubs.


ENGEOCOM Working on Complete Highway Interchange Overhaul

ENGEOCOM has completed reconstruction of the highway interchange at the intersection of Ring Road and Ryazan Ave. In December Moscow’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin was on hand to open the transport tunnel to traffic for the first time since construction began. Also at the opening was the Deputy Mayor for urban highway constructionplanning, and the building of Marat Khusnullin, head of the construction department for the city of Moscow Alexey Bochkarev. Also the First Deputy head of the city’s construction department Pyotr Aksenov, as well as the president of the company ENGEOCOM, Dimitri Evseev.

Dimitri and Sergey were on hand to talk about the project. The entire reconstruction of the freeway interchange took 11 months. “In September we opened one overpass here, and in November, the second.” With the completion of the tunnel they will complete the work on all basic functions of the interchange, said Dimitri Evseev, president of ENGEOCOM. The brand new tunnel runs the length of 603 metres and will provide Congress with the counterclockwise roundabout of Lermontov Avenue on the inner side of the Moscow Ring Road. Reconstruction of the entire project, comprises a large set of measures: the construction of the overpass Moscow-Ryazan has a projected length of 178 meters, the overpass Ring – Lermontov avenue has a 168 meter long road tunnel, and 608 meters long pedestrian bridge over the Ryazan prospectus; expansion of Moscow, Ryazan and Lermontov Prospekt; and includes reconstruction of existing conventions with Moscow and relaying the underlying utilities. After the reconstruction of the facility traffic capacity will increase by 25%, which will cut down on traffic and make areas much easier to access.

The aim is to replace one of the “petals” of the traffic “clover” with a decoupling of one of the interchanges. The mayor then noted that the updated interchange will greatly improve the accessibility of the Zhulebino, Nekrasovka, and suburban Lyubertsy areas. This is the 12th upgrade in a series of upgrades at the interchange at Ring Road. It is a complex subject, which, despite all attempts to make it as easy on motorists, has cause a large inconvenience to drivers on the road.

ENGEOCOM has had workers going at maximum speed to try to make the road construction be less obtrusive to the daily lives of motorists as soon as possible. “In recent years, the builders have been working around the clock and have finished the extremely complex construction as soon as possible,” said the mayor. Clearly the intent here is to finish as soon as possible, and the government feels the push to finish this large undertaking as soon as possible.

The mayor thanked the construction workers of all of their good work and gave the command to open up the tunnel in order to let the first traffic through the new interchange.


New Year, New Skyline in Moscow.

Of the 9 tallest skyscrapers due to be completed in the next 12 months worldwide, Russia’s Vostok Tower is due to up the ante of Europe’s tallest building, usurping the title from the nearby Mercury City Tower and the OKO building. The Federation Tower is a large complex of skyscrapers (some completed, some still in progress) built on the 13th lot of the Moscow International Business Center. Ground was broken in 2003, but due to extenuating circumstances and The Federation Tower silhouettefinancing, construction stopped. Construction began again in 2011, and the last and tallest tower, The Vostok Tower is due to be completed in 2016.


The building features contain offices in addition to hotel suites and apartment suites, and the plans include “sky-bridges” between the towers that will also house eateries and cafes. There will also be the highest digital clock in the world on the outside of the building. The Federation Tower complex has been used by thrill-seeking climbers and base jumpers for adventure sports. There have been several TV shows, movies, and adverts that have used the building as a location for shooting. The designs have undergone some significant changes from the initiation of construction. According to the builder of the tower it uses concrete grade B90 for its construction, which  they say is twice as strong as regular concrete and will allow the skyscraper to withstand a direct hit of an aircraft. It will be 373-metres high, and is designed as a collaboration between Peter Schweger of Schweger Associated Architects and Sergei Tchoban of NPS Tchoban Voss.

3. Lotte World Tower, Korea, by Kohn Pedersen Fox hit a hiccup around sinkholes appeared around the base, but is on track for completion in 2016.

4. CTF Finance Center, China, by Kohn Pedersen Fox will overlook the Pearl River.

5. Wuhan Center Tower, China, by ECADI is designed with curved walls which are meant to evoke the imagery of a ship’s sails.

6. Marina 101, UAE, by National Engineering Bureau will hold the Middle East’s first Hard Rock Hotel.

7. Eton Place Dalian Tower 1, China, by NBBJ is four years overdue for completion.

The eighth place is the aforementioned Vostok Tower, Russia, by NPS Tchoban Voss and Schweger Associated Architects

9. Dalian International Trade Center, China, by Dalian Architectural Design & Research Institute has a rectilinear glass form with chamfered corners.

Tour Held for Residents of Underground Station

On Monday, May 15 at the site of “Association” ENGEOCOM the general visit. Right now the development branch of the City of Moscow offered to Muscovites to watch the advancement of work at the station “Khodynka” Third trade circuit of the Moscow Metro.

The team of “ENGEOCOM” received awards for their contributions involving the preparation and holding of the Olympic Games in Sochi. Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered the award, which consisted of diplomas and commemorative medals. During the presentation, Putin stated that these awards were well deserved for the “significant contribution to the preparation and holding of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic WInter Games in Sochi.”

Dmitry Evseev praised the achievements of employees who helped in the construction of the Olympic facilities and thanked them for their incredible support and hard work. This project was a huge undertaking and the company benefited greatly, gaining invaluable experience in implementing projects of this magnitude.

“ENGEOCOM” built two major sports facilities in the capital for the 2014 Winter Olympics. The buildings houses the Ice Palace for figure skating and short-track “Iceberg” (2012) and the Central Olympic Stadium “Fischt” (2013). Ice Palace “Iceberg” has become one of the most important architectural symbols from the Olympic Games in Sochi. The facility featured a wavy shape lined with blue glass windows. It is a collapsible structure, constructed of 15,000 tons of metal with no welding, it is fastened together with screws.

The company also contributed to the development of transport infrastructure, with the construction of federal highway M-27. The highway become one of the most important roadways in the city of Sochi during the Olympic Games. Newly Renovated Central Children’s Store Opens Its Doors

The famous Lubyanka Square in Russia is getting a new facelift this year as the original Central Children’s Store will opened its newly renovated doors to eager young children and parents alike. The building was originally constructed in 1957 by famous architect, A. Dushkin. The major restoration of the store’s infrastructure was completed in December 2014, and the last few months have been used for designers to create a modern look of the individual stores found inside Children’s Store. 

ENGEOCOM has been working on reconstructing and adapting the current structure of the building to a more modern infrastructure that could house multiple stores and become a staple in Lubyanka Square. Before starting to work on this project, Mosgosstroynadzor submitted the necessary documents of compliance in order to align contraction goals with local guidelines and regulations. 

The restoration of the building had to be completed in extremely small areas, as the surrounding vicinity of Central Children’s Store lies among the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the hotel “Savoy.” The delivery and assembly of materials was made extremely difficult due the positioning of the work site. However, the project was completed successfully by employing safe practices and long term goal setting. 

The monumental properties of Central Children’s, and the historic attachments most locals have to this building were taken into consideration when designers created the renovation plans. The new changes are meant to preserve the original outline of its silhouette, space structure and other design elements. More than 50,000 visitors will be expected to enjoy the newly modernized store in April of 2015. 

New Moscow Metro Expected In 2016

The building of the station, dubbed “Khoroshevskaya”, is at full swing and it is expected to be completed late in 2016.

As mentioned above, Khoroshevskaya is part of a much bigger project called the Third interchange circuit, which includes the construction of other railroad and underground stations such as “Business Center”, “Shelepiha”, “Khodynka” and “Peter Park.”

The urgency of building these transportation routes was slowed down due to the preparatory process, which took almost two years, as well as the grand scale of the project. Other setbacks included the change in building methods, which varied from closed to open in order to find the best possible way save money and finish faster. Despite these minor complications throughout the first few stages of construction, General Director for ENGEOCOM stated that close to 3.5 million rubles were saved because of these efforts. 

The difficult geological conditions present at the site of Khoroshevskaya have forced the workers to use a unique type of soil for the surface, which in turn is going to increase the rate of perforation.

Engeocom Recognized For Contribution in Olympics

On Wednesday, December 24 at the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation held a solemn presentation of state awards for his contribution to the preparation and conduct of the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games of 2014 in Sochi.

The award ceremony was held Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov and Minister of Construction and Housing and Utilities Minister Mikhail Men.
Speaking to the builders and employees of the transport complex, Maxim Sokolov said that preparations for such a grand event like the Olympics in Sochi was conducted for several years.

World Cup 2018: Russia

In 2010 Russia won the bid to host the prestigious, international FIFA World Cup. A competition that attracts the eye of most of the sports fans around the planet. Thirteen venues will host games for international play during the World Cup. Qualifier games for the mecca of soccer begin this coming June, but the construction of the venues in Russia are running into delays and price increases.

imgres-3Price increases for stadium construction are being reviewed by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade as the nation prepares for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Ministry is already working towards evaluating the legitimacy of the increase in price, while looking for ways to reduce costs.

The construction efforts have come to a point where the Ministry has requested from FIFA, permission to reduce two stadiums’ capacities from 45,000 people to 35,000. After receiving the approval for the capacity reduction, no more will be allowed in order to accommodate the masses of traveling fans that flock to the World Cup.

While Russia is due to cut its budget allocation to the preparation for the World Cup, it does not plan to see those funding reductions affect stadium and infrastructure construction. Other parts of the preparation will see budget reductions of up to 10%.

The Russian economy has been hit recently with the value of the Rouble dropping against the dollar as far as 75 Roubles to the Dollar. This mostly due to the international oil surplus resulting in engorged interest rates by Russia. In 2012 when the construction budget was announced at 664.1 Roubles, that translated to $20.5 billion in USD. California’s Bullet Train

While everything seems to always seem great and sunny in California, the one thing California has lacked is better public transportation. While many residents of the state may want or think they need a subway, that’s not quite what they are getting. What will break ground on Tuesday January 6th is California’s bullet train. The train is supposed to run from Los Angeles to the Bay Area.

imgres-10After 2 years of debate and debacle, California is finally ready to start this project. The California High-Speed Rail Authority won many court battles and had many legislative victories which helps fund the project. It has been a long road to this point, so long that this project was actually first spoken of in the late 1970’s during Governor Jerry Brown’s first term.

The project will begin in Fresno where they will begin the first 29 miles of the track. This project is projected to cost about $68 billion. With so much opposition to the project, it raises doubt that the project can in fact be completed. Democrats were all for the project and believed Tuesday was the validation to their vision whereas Republicans believe the state is digging deeper into a costly project that likely won’t ever be completed.

Where is all this money coming from? Well as of now, some of it is coming from the following:
-$9 billion: Voters approved a $9 billion bond measure for the project in 2008
-$3.2 billion: Obama administration grant
-$250-$1 billion (annually): Legislatures agreed to provide 25% of greenhouse gas or cap and trade fees
